LIVE: Porridge Radio
@ Rough Trade East on 12 March 2020
On a challenging day, when it would be no surprise at all for gig ticketholders up and down the country to stay at home, there was a really good crowd here to see this 4-piece and get a close quarters preview of tracks from the very soon to be released album.
Keen followers will have heard previous incarnations of these songs on the excellent, but low-fi, Rice, Pasta and Other Fillers (2016) along with more recent singles Sweet and Circling. But, in Dana Margolin’s own words, it’s a very special day for them to be releasing their first album via Secretly Canadian; titled Every Bad.
And they made it count tonight. Irrepressible post-punk rhythms and sharp guitar are married to Margolin’s no-hold-barred vocal delivery, which is compelling and hits home the hooks to brilliant effect tonight.
One previously-unheard track was a particularly beautiful, angst filled, bitter-sweet song of the highest order. I am reliably informed this was Pop Song – and if it was possible to come away with an extra level of anticipation for my first play of the album on Friday, this was it.
I look forward to sharing more on this and the rest of the album with you very soon.

Just a final extra note
Like many acts, due to recent events, Porridge Radio have had to cancel a tour and there will no doubt be a ongoing impact on their shows and activities in the near future. So, if you can afford to do so; consider grabbing some merch or an extra record or two. You can also help out by spreading the word or simply giving them a follow, share or like on your favourite social media platform.
