20 for 2020 - Part 3

Introducing another five exciting acts for the year ahead:

Black country, new road

Another band who are taking a low key approach, letting the music do the talking. Two tracks 'out there' and regular live spots are all it has taken to gather plenty of attention.

Having already made it onto the 6 Music festival bill in March, they will be at SXSW next as and are confirmed for the excellent Wide Awake festival (london) later in the summer.

Tracks - Sunglasses; Athens, France

Sports Team

If raucous songs and performance are your jam, then get behind Sports Team; by all accounts, there is no comparison right now for spontaneous, hectic, exciting live performances in 2020.

And judging by their brilliant recorded efforts to date, including most recent single 'Here's the Thing', this six-piece are all set to muscle their way into the spotlight propelled by an irrepressible energy, carrying their guitar-led riffs with them through the EDM, beat-led and pop RnB chart crowd.

Tracks - Heres the Thing; M5; Fishing

Sinead O Brien

Flying the flag for sharp, impactful lyrics and characterful vocal delivery, Sinead is quite possibly one single away from wall-to-wall radio play. Personally, for me that single was A Thing You call Joy / Limbo but clearly I am no expert on the vagaries of the music industry and the apparent measures for 'success'.

On merit, all of Sinead O Briens material - without exception - deserves your attention. And I am sure there will be much more to come this year and beyond from this unique talent.

Tracks - Limbo; Taking on Time; A Thing You Call Joy

Dry Cleaning

This South London 4-piece have already developed a sound, loosely in the new wave/post punk bracket, that is bafflingly underexposed.

2019 EP's 'Sweet Princess' and 'Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks' have showcased their characteristic spiky musicality and commentary on everyday social anxiety and complications to great effect, and positive live reports are a regular occurrence from both average punters and seasoned reviewers.

All of which makes this band a must see this year.

Tracks - Magic of Meghan; Dog Proposal

Heavy Lungs

Hailing from the burgeoning Bristol, and having previously supported IDLES, Heavy Lungs have already received plenty of praise for their debut EP Abstract Thoughts and their live performances.

In 2020, Heavy Lungs are extending their punk strut even further, out on their own this year on a tour of scandinavia, before returning to the UK for festival season. With full on energy, rampaging rhythms, and raucous guitar, this band could well blow many festival go-er's hangover away and make a big impression this summer.
